Meg Smith’s a “Winner” on tour’s opening night in Chicago!

“I got baptized at a Meg Smith concert”. Meg Smith definitely made good on her slogan.

Opening for Molly Grace’s “Blush” Tour at Lincoln Hall on Friday October 10, Meg Smith brought the party vibes with her to Chicago!

As if appearing out of a dream, Smith emerged onstage donning sparkly hot pink gloves and shorts to match -along with a disco ball-esq. bra, glittery tights and silver platform boots. In true Meg Smith fashion, the singer wore her signature angel wings and halo (“This is what I usually wear onstage” Smith laughed, meaning the angel getup. “Not just because it’s [gonna be] Halloween”). Her long, curly blonde hair dyed hot pink at the roots.

Smith hit the ground running as she began her set with “G*d D*mn Baby”, a kiss-off to people playing the victim (taken from her recently released 3-song project of the same name). After the first song, the singer peered out into the crowd under the pinkish purple stage lights. “Welcome to Molly Grace’s “Blush” Tour!” Smith exclaimed, telling the audience that this was the first show of the tour. During the bridge of “you fake british accent”, Smith called on the crowd to repeat the song title back to her in their best, well, fake British accents.

As much as the fans were there to see headliner Molly Grace (decked out in prim and proper dresses, tiaras and lipstick motifs galore), they definitely showed up for Meg, too (amidst a spackle of angel wings, halos and glitter). During her song “Winner”, Smith gleefully pranced around onstage like a child (in the cutest way possible!), a steady stream of bubbles trailing behind her. Bubbles delicately float their way into the crowd as well. An adorable touch to her set!

The bubbles cleared in time as Smith dove into her pear-clutching, saucy mid tempo banger, “jesus christ in a mini skirt” (stylized in all lowercase, mind you). “I could be just like her / Everything you always wish I were / Flawlessly faultless / She's Jesus Christ in a mini skirt”.

Smith’s set concluded with a pretend phone call with tour mate, Molly Grace. With both ladies out of audience view, they asked each other, “Should we sing it? Right now? Let’s do it!”. After saying bye to each other over the phone, the call ended. Meg Smith and Molly Grace then appeared onstage together to sing Smith’s recent single, “Girls Just Wanna Be Famous”. Both Smith and Grace’s stage presence was genuine, as if they’ve been BFFs for quite some time, romping around onstage like nobody’s business.

It may have been Molly Grace’s tour, but for the time she was up there, Smith soaked it all in. Right then and there, it was Meg Smith’s world. And, for the time being, we were all just living in it.
