Future Palace takes the crown on their Distortion North American tour

Future Palace is the arising post-hard-rock metal trio that hails from Berlin, Germany. Consisting of Maria Lessing (vocals), Manuel Kohlert (guitar) and Johannes Früchtenicht (drums). The friends got their start roughly around late 2018 when Früchtenicht and Kohlert had recently departed from their own previous bands they had been a part of. It just so happened that Lessing was recording a vocal feature on one of the band’s songs around the same time. All fell into place, they created a WhatsApp group for the band that Manuel named “Future Palace”, to which the name would be later on adopted as the band name.

After the release of their albums “Escape” (2020), “Run” (2022), and their most recent album, peaking at #32 on the German charts upon it’s first week of release, “Distortion”, the trio embarked on their first ever North American tour hitting up a handful of cities, including a Chicago suburb close to my own. I had the privilege to capture their set at The WC Social Club in West Chicago, Saturday, September 27th.

The venue itself is a hidden gem in the western suburbs, with a decent capacity of a little over 500 people. Which made the show feel intimate, with just enough room to open up a circle pit and mosh comfortably.

They were joined by their friends HAWK, Half Me, and From Embers To Ashes, who all warmed up the crowd for Future Palace’s set.

Once Future Palace took the stage, they packed a punch. Crowds were hyped, people moshed, even singing along if we all weren’t head banging. The band was super passionate about putting on both an energetic and emotionally driven set. It was incredible to see a community form in the same room with nothing but love and rock and roll energy to radiate. I loved every second I was there. While their tour just wrapped up in Brooklyn, New York, Saturday, I hope the band is back playing in my area again some time.
