On July 22nd I had the honors of capturing a once in a lifetime show for an exceptionally talented friend of mine. Center stage at the semi-intimate Voodoo Room at the House Of Blues in San Diego was the rising alternative pop rock star Chandler Leighton, who was headlining Gritty In Pink’s Warped Warmup show before taking upon her own set at Warped Tour Long Beach last Sunday.
Leighton, emerging from the LA scene brings a highly energetic and euphoric performance. Inspired by her favorite bands like Nothing But Theives and Måneskin, she strives to bring a lively atmosphere to her sets. She delivered a sneak peak of her warped set, including some of her classics like “I THINK YOU TURNED ME”, “Touchin’ me” and even treated us to her latest released “SUPERMODEL”, which had us dancing without a care.
PARENTAL ADVISORY: Chandler Leighton performs “Touchin’ Me” at her Warped Warmup set
Right before Leighton’s set, she was accompanied by a talented group of musicians in The All GRL Jam, covering your favorite classic emo and grungy hits from My Chemical Romance to Fall Out Boy. They were an awesome addition that got the crowd hyped and full of energy for Chandler’s set.
The vibes throughout the show were lively. The performance? Captivating. The only downside to this performance is that it was only forty minutes long when I still had the energy to jump around to ten more songs.
extra, Extra: Coming Up For Air
Leighton’s latest EP “Coming Up For Air” is set to be released on August 29th. Following the release of her third coming project, she’s set to take stage at the recently announced Ceremony Fest taking place in Nashville on November 8th, prior to her set at Warped Tour in Orlando, November 15th and 16th.
On a side note, Chandler has become addicted to crowd surfing since doing so at her Warped Tour set in Long Beach last month. Please be respectful and help her flow through the tide of enthusiastic concert goers should she make her way to you. For Chandler: If you are reading this and there’s a 360 camera involved… Don’t forget to grab it before you take your leap of faith. Tickets for Ceremony fest is on sale now and waitlist for Warped Tour Orlando is available on their website.
