Maybe It’s The Drugs, Maybe I’m In Love With Cam Kahin’s New Single “Keep Me In Mind”

Toronto based alternative indie rock artist Cam Kahin delivers with his new single, “Keep Me in Mind”. Kahin, who’s been teasing the song, along with a handful of other possible tracks set to be released sometime this year, released the song Friday.
Starting the track off with dreamy acoustics, the song builds with consistent electric guitar that coexists with the drums nicely; giving it a distinct sound, all while not being overpowering.
While “Keep Me in Mind” gives off the vibe of a nice summer day at the skate park, the lyrics can be interpreted into something deeper. Breaking down the first verse:
“Stay awake the more you speak, oh the more weak I get // Mind is bleak but you give me a reason to forget // Maybe it’s the drugs, maybe I’m in love, maybe it’s the state we all become // I’ve been burning off, I can’t get enough, I just hope you stay a while// ‘Cause I can’t stay away”.
The interpretation I get is someone grappling with their own addictions, all while being intertwined in a relationship that’s not being reciprocated. Perhaps it’s not that deep, and is rather just a song you can enjoy alone in your room, working out, or with your friends regardless of the mood. Either way, there’s no denying that Kahin is able to bring a chill vibe that leads you to make your own interpretation with his lyricism if you wish to do so.
Lights, cam, action! : the next steps
After releasing his debut album “WHEN IT’S ALL OVER” back in 2023, he’s toured with a handful of artists like K.Flay, and Mass Of The Frementing Dregs. From my own personal conversations with Cam when we occasionally catch up, after the tours he’s done, he’s been working nonstop in his studio, excited to share what’s next. I am too.
Go check Cam out on his Spotify, and Instagram.
He might just be your new favorite underground artist.
