Lydia Night can’t seem to get her mind out of the “Gutter” on lusty new single
Lydia Night recently dropped her slinky track, “Gutter”, the third single off her debut solo album, [now officially titled] “Parody Of Pleasure” (album itself coming early August 2025).
Written by Lydia Night herself and Idarose and released on Warner Records (part of Warner Music Group), “Gutter” is the perfect track for those dog days of summer vibes.
“Gutter” opens with a sharp, ear-grabbing repeating riff that Night had teased in her ongoing Instagram video series, “Pop or Flop” (BTS-esq. series following the singer as she solidifies pop superstardom on her own terms).
An ode to lust and exploring sexuality, “Gutter” finds Night (who came out as bisexual in 2022) coyly wondering about a woman she finds attractive, “I'm likin' your shirt, but I wonder what’s under (Oh) / You're stepping real close and I'm feeling the thunder / Where should we go to rip the clothes off each other? (Oh)”
Or does she say all of this aloud?
The singer continues piling on complements as the chorus continues, “Your lips look like cherries, your touch feels like butter”. Oh, and name-checking Prince and Childish Gambino in the same song doesn’t hurt either (“I'm feeling like Prince I wanna be your lover” and “We put on 3005, Donald Glover” respectively).
It’s obvious that Lydia’s distracted in the worst (best!) way by this unnamed woman.
Or is Night really in lust with …herself? In the song’s music video (post-pool party scenes), Night makes out in a doppelgänger’s lap (said doppelgänger played by fellow singer Olivia O’Brien).
Interesting wordplay also comes in handy as Night suggestively insists that she and her love interest, “…could be spies, we could go under covers”.
Night isn’t looking for anything serious here -she just wants to have a good time and have fun. “Gutter” is a slow-burner end-of-summer song all about being free and simply wanting to be wanted.
You can practically picture Night smiling as she tells listeners (and her love interest), “Sorry if I'm being flirty / I can't help it I suppose”.
