Jade Bird unleashes an "Avalanche” of emotion on new single.

Ahead of her third studio album, “Who Wants To Talk About Love?”, UK-born singer-songwriter Jade Bird releases her quiet new single, “Avalanche”. The track follows Bird’s previous two offerings from “WWTTAL?”: the minimalistic folksy “Who Wants?” and the power ballad “Dreams”.

Bird’s delicate vocals dance over the opening lines, “Sun shines through the ice / I realize that I'm frozen,” -painting a frighteningly beautiful scene right off the bat. “Avalanche” was written by Jade and was produced by Teddy Geiger (best known for her work with Shawn Mendes and - more recently - Leon Bridges and Caroline Polachek). The track, featuring fragile guitar throughout, wouldn’t have sounded out of place in the haunting film “The Lovely Bones” (2009), based on Alice Sebold’s 2002 book of the same name.

The chorus finds Bird pondering whether she’ll ever be found underneath mounds of snow: “I am under an avalanche / And there is no one who can find me / I am under an avalanche / So send out a search party.” The bridge rings out with, “Hallelujah / Hallelujah / Hallelujah / Hallelujah”; each one finds the artist growing increasingly concerned whether she’ll be found or not. “Avalanche” is the kind of song that stays with you long after the song ends.

In support of her new album, Bird is opening for English singer-songwriter Tom Odell on his upcoming North American tour, which Bird announced via her official TikTok account last month.
