“Ballyhoo” amazes Fans as second single release for “saviors (deluxe edition)”

As the single kicks off, the first 10 seconds feel nostalgic, just like one might for “Nimrod” which originally released in October of 1997. Billie starts with the Lyrics;

“Hurry up, Hurry up, get moving // Just to fall down again // I’m looking like a jerk, looking like a jerk // And I’m feeling like a lunatic”

This point of view comes from someone who feels like they might be constantly on edge, hurrying around, and feeling like they are losing their mind. The second verse goes on with the following;

“Listen up, listen I’ve been drinking // Touched by the hand of luck //I’m waiting on the sun, waiting on the sun // Like a star that’s blowing up // It’s a curse, it’s at worst a blessing // God, and his only son // Ah, mama raised the bomb, chewing bubblegum”

For this verse, the view has shifted from someone who feels rushed and constantly on edge to someone who expects things to go wrong despite their best efforts to keep things moving in the right direction. Throughout the song, it becomes clear that the person’s sense of reality is warped with coping with those realities with dark humor and self-destructive tendencies, but constantly has to push forward to get past those coping tools.

Overall th0ughts

When speaking to a fan about the single, he also felt the same sense of nostalgia throughout the song. Lyrically he stated that it feels like an edgier throwback to “Insomniac” (1995) and “Nimrod” (1997) with a more modern interpretation of “Nimrod” mixed with hints of the Trilogy era sounds and the possibility of hints from “Revolution Radio” (2016).

Overall, “Ballyhoo” feels set to lead to many more projects from Green Day. This single is different from the other songs currently released on “Saviors” but leaves room for more things to come when the deluxe edition drops on May 25th.
