Carly Rae Jepsen feels like there may be something “More” on previously unreleased track
Carly Rae Jepsen is definitely not just the “Call Me Maybe” singer. She’s definitely been keeping busy. In fact, since making her US debut (releasing her debut album, “KISS”, which housed the above-mentioned ear worm of a single) in 2012, this Canadian has been doing quite well for herself, thank you very much.
Since “Call Me Maybe”, Jepsen has released five additional studio albums through Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records: “E•MO•TION” (2015), “Dedicated” (2019), “Dedicated: Side B” (2020), “The Loneliest Time” (2022) and “The Loveliest Time” (2023). Not to mention she has amassed a dedicated (no pun intended) fan base.
This year marks ten years since Jepsen dropped her (criminally underrated) pop masterpiece, “E•MO•TION”. Said album became a pivotal moment in Jepsen’s career. She was no longer the “Call Me Maybe” girl, but a bonafide indie-pop darling. Through word-of-mouth (and the Internet, of course), “E•MO•TION” has since become a fan-favorite.
To commemorate ten years of “E•MO•TION”, Jepsen /Interscope are releasing “E•MO•TION (10th Anniversary Edition)” on Friday October 17th, 2025. Ahead of this re-release, Jepsen dropped a previously unreleased track called “More”.
An outtake from the “E•MO•TION” sessions, I have to wonder why on God’s green earth this catchy bop was left on the cutting room floor? “More” fits the 80s vibe of the album and definitely would not have sounded out of place.
Right off the bat, the song breaks into a lively beat (a la a hop and a skip) as Jepsen senses the person of her affection possibly has feelings for her -despite this person already having a girlfriend (“I'm afraid / That your girl's not here and you wanna stay / For a drink or two / Makes me blush to face my own face in the mirror”).
This could be the best relationship ever or it could easily go down in flames (“I'm afraid of the night / I can see us burning down the horizon. Dancing on the tip of the ice / Tip of the iceberg”). The Canadian singer, however, is convinced there’s something more to this platonic relationship (“You and me, I always had the feeling that there might be something / More”).
This person “Leaves me hypnotized” in the second verse. At the same time, Jepsen questions, “Why are you on my mind?” and second guesses her own feelings (“Hanging with you really feels right …But the more I start to fall for you, then”).
In the bridge, the singer tells this mysterious person that it, “Feels like you were mine in another life / In another life, in another life / Feels like you were mine, does it make it right?” Jepsen repeats, “In another life, in another life…” a few more times aloud, as if she herself can’t believe what she’s saying aloud.
The final chorus sees the Canadian export reassuring herself by concluding, “Always had the feeling that there might be something…” there’s a slight (yet very effective) music break before Jepsen declares in a single breath, “…more”. The song ends here, with our hero more convinced than ever there’s something “more” between her and her special person.
Definitely a Carly Rae Jepsen classic.
