Amelia Moore wants to be shown off like a “prom queen” on latest single
She just wants to be loved. Don’t we all?
On “prom queen”, alt-pop singer /songwriter /multi-instrumentalist Amelia Moore desires a partner who will - as she puts it in the chorus - “Show mе off (Show me off again, yeah, show me off) / Like I'm your prom queen (Like it's prom, like we're at the prom)”.
Released via Republic Records (part of Universal Music Group), the track is set over a rhythmic beat that immediately reminded me of (a slightly more-subdued) Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer”. But while NIN’s frontman Trent Reznor seeks escape through emptiness and vices, Moore seeks a real connection with her partner.
In the first verse, Moore encourages her partner to not be insecure around her by saying, “Girlfriend, I know / That word makes you nervous, huh, I know”. The Georgia native frankly reassures this woman, “But even (Even) your bed (Bed) thinks we're f***in' perfect”.
The pre-chorus continues with Moore not wanting this woman to feel intimidated by their relationship, “What's the point in tryna keep a secret / When the secret ain't a secret now?” Cat’s out of the bag …might as well embrace it, right? An ego boost never hurt either, as the singer goes on to bluntly praise her partner’s, err, performance, “Swear I didn't ever tell my roommates / But they can hear it when you e** me out”. This gal’s obviously doing something right!
In the chorus, Moore would love for her partner to, “Spin me around (Show me off again, yeah, show me off) / Tell everybody (Like it's prom, like we're at the prom) / I wanna hear you say you love me”. Subject-wise, it reminded me of “Cool For The Summer” by Demi Lovato. But while Lovato prefers to keep the relationship a secret, Moore would love if her partner yelled their relationship from the rooftops.
This antsy anticipation continues throughout the entire second verse as the Georgia native exclaims, “I feel it (Feel it) on the tip of your tongue / When you're kissin' me, the words are in your mouth (In your mouth) / Go ahead, spit 'em out (Spit 'em, spit 'em out; Oh) / You said you're waitin' (Waitin') for the right moment (Moment) / Baby, the moment's right now (Now), it's right now (Ooh), oh, baby”.
Everyone wants to feel loved. Desired. Moore deserves to be treated like, not a princess, but a queen. And that’s all that matters.
