Hotel Mira makes us feel at home in Chicago

Hotel Mira performing at Subterranean on 10/12/25 during their “Pity Party” North American Tour

Hotel Mira is an eclectic indie-alternative band from Vancouver, Canada, with a continuously growing fan base. Consisting of Charlie Kerr (vocals), Mike Noble (bass), Clark Grieve (guitar, keyboard), and Cole George (drums), the quartet performed one of the most eccentric sets I have ever been to. On October 12th, they came to Subterranean in Chicago to perform one of their most highly anticipated shows on their “Pity Party” North American Tour. The band was gracious enough to invite me along to capture this memorable set.

Before their set, their friend Nat Lefkoff (whom Kerr adoringly referred to as his little brother) took to the stage to blow the crowd away with powerful acoustics and vocals that cut right through the soul. Lefkoff’s style of music is feel-good, emotional, indie-folksy, all wrapped up.

The set doubled as a stand-up comedy segment, as we got to hear a fun story from Nat about his days before music, when he was an elementary school teacher. Moral of his story: talk to your kids about their changing bodies so Nat doesn’t have to be the poor soul to answer their questions. (No Ian, mayonnaise is not an instrument)

I’m normally not drawn towards folk-type genres; however, seeing the passion and emotion Nat put into his work, he might have opened up my ears a little.

As Hotel Mira was set to clock in to their shift, the crowd grew more and more enthusiastic. Their set was full of hips, flair, and the most performer-to-crowd chemistry I’ve ever witnessed. The charm and engagement of frontman Charlie Kirr was undeniable. Although not as flamboyant as Charlie, members Cole, Clark, and Mike carried the band’s energetic, sometimes emotional sound throughout the venue. They have one clear message: All are welcome at a Hotel Mira show. Regardless of what you look like or who you love, the band made sure to stand firm in their set on their beliefs. To extend their appreciation to their cultivated family, they stood behind for a while after the show, being sure to say hi to everyone, sign vinyls/merch, and get as many pictures as they could with their adoring base before having to pack up and repeat the same routine for their next show.

While their tour still goes strong throughout the US and Canada throughout November/December, one thing is for certain: Hotel Mira adores their growing base and knows how to host a memorable stay. If they pop up in your area, I highly recommend booking a stay before the rest of their tour sells out.
